Jacks Mannequin Music
Fans and music critics alike have been raving about both albums of alternative rock band Jacks Mannequin. The piano rock band, made up of Andrew McMahon of Something Corporate, Bobby Anderson, Jay McMillan, and Jon Sullivan. The group hailed from Los Angeles, California and released their first album in 2005.
What started initially as a personal endeavor, Everything In Transit, the first album, became a success. McMahon wrote the songs from the album when his former band decided to take a long break from touring and recording. He has been writing some materials already before and when the songs he’d written started to take form, he decided to go ahead and proceed with production, even if it meant he’d finance it using his own money.
Eventually, he landed a recording deal with Maverick Records and released Everything In Transit. The album was received positively both by fans and music critics. The lyrics of the songs included in the album were very personal and intimate as McMahon wrote them with a therapeutic approach.
There was supposed to be a tour in line with the album’s release but because McMahon was diagnosed with a certain type of leukemia, it was put off.
The Mixed Tape, Dark Blue, and Holiday From Real were among the songs included in the album, which the band performed during their cameo in the television series One Tree Hill. Other tracks in the album are Bruised, I’m Ready, la Lie, Miss Delaney, Kill the Messenger, Rescued, MFEO:Made For Each Other/You Can Breathe, and Into the Airwaves.
The band’s next record was called The Glass Passenger and was released in September of 2008. A tour was scheduled for the same month with another band, Paramore. The new record got positive feedback once again from fans and music critics.
The Resolution, a track from the second album, is for sale in iTunes in both audio and video formats. The Glass Passenger is sold as an iTunes plus edition. It has 19 full-length songs, including The Resolution. The Ghost Overground EP was also released on iTunes in August 2008. The Resolution and Bloodshot are two of the singles included on the record as well as two live tracks from the first album.
Another EP was released on iTunes in September called In Valleys. It contained the tracks Swim, Cell Phone, At Full Speed, and Sleazy Wednesday. Other EPs that the band released are Kill the Messenger, Holiday, and Live From SoHo (also released on iTunes).
Songs from The Glass Passenger were performed by the band Hammers and Strings: An Evening with Jack’s Mannequin and The Glass Passenger tour.
Of the six singles Jack’s Mannequin released, two have made it to the charts: The Mixed Tape (Number 124 in the US) and The Resolution (Number 104 at the US charts, Number 27 at the US Modern Rock.
